Socialisme/Kommunisme
James Granell: The Revolutionary Ideas of Oscar Wilde
Irish Marxist Review (Irland) nr. 12, mar 15 – side 40
Note: Oscar Wilde’s reputation as a socialist often takes second place to his reputation as a playwright, poet, dandy and notorious wit. However, in 1891, the Dublin born writer, and arch-satirist of Victorian sensibilities, set out his ideas of socialism in his essay The Soul of Man Under Socialism. The essay affords the reader a glimpse into the political mind of this often caricatured Irish artist.

Jørn Andersen: Hvad mener vi med: Socialisme
Socialistisk Arbejderavis nr. 321, jul 12 – side 15
Note: Begrebet socialisme forstås i bred almindelighed som et bestemt samfundssystem, som man kan synes om eller være imod. For marxister har begrebet en noget anden, men til gengæld mere præcis betydning.

What we think: Socialism is not an impossible dream
Socialist Worker nr. 2238, feb 11 – side 2
Note: The Egyptian people have made a revolution that will change the course of history. Hosni Mubarak was one of the world’s most brutal dictators and was backed to the hilt by the US and all the western powers.

Mark Harvey: Book Review: The Idea of Communism
Socialist Review nr. 355, feb 11 – side 25
Note: Edited by Costas Douzinas and Slavoj Žižek, Verso, £14.99
A conference to discuss whether the idea of communism is still of relevance to the project of human emancipation was organised by London's Birkbeck College in March 2009. Interest and ticket uptake were so high that the planned location had to be moved three times, eventually to the Institute of Education. Those of us who might have attended but for the £100 ticket price can at least console ourselves with this collection of the 15 papers that were presented.

John Molyneux: Socialism can work
Socialist Review nr. 332, jan 09 – side 15
Note: Some people think that socialism sounds great but will never work in practice. John Molyneux challenges their arguments and explores what socialism would look like.

Esme Choonara + Kate Connelly: Can socialist planning work?
Socialist Worker nr. 2128, nov 08 – side 8
Note: With economic crisis sweeping the globe, many people are asking if there is a better way to organise society. Kate Connelly and Esme Choonara explain how a planned socialist economy might work

Ian Birchall: What is workers’ control?
Socialist Worker nr. 2119, sep 08 – side 13
Note: Following the recent state take-over of financial giants, Ian Birchall reveals the limits of nationalisation, and why socialists stand for a different vision – that of workers’ control.

Chris Harman: Our alternative to market madness
Socialist Worker nr. 2095, apr 08 – side 13
Note: Last week the Financial Times claimed that Socialist Worker had no answer to the economic crisis caused by capitalism. Chris Harman sets the record straight.

Jan Hoby: Boganmeldelse: En vision der holder
Socialistisk Arbejderavis nr. 213, apr 03 – side 8
Note: Michael Albert: PARECON – Life After Capitalism

Mikkel Birk Jespersen: Det socialistiske samfund
Socialistisk Arbejderavis nr. 182, maj 00 – side 11
Note: Socialismen vil betyde frigørelse af enorme potentialer.

Socialistisk Arbejderavis nr. 37, feb 88 – side 4
Note: Det er en almindelig opfattelse blandt feminister, at en socialistisk revolution ikke automatisk vil frigøre kvinderne.

Martin B. Johansen: Spørgsmål vi ofte møder: Hvad er socialisme?
Socialistisk Arbejderavis nr. 22, sep 86 – side 4
Note: Hvis man forestiller sig et samfund, hvor mad, bolig og transport er gratis, så vil de borgerlige svare: “Det er der ikke råd til”. Men hvad er det egentlig, som bestemmer, hvad “der er råd til”?

Chris Harman: Eurocommunism: The State and Revolution
International Socialism Journal (1st series) nr. 101, sep 77 – side 11
Note: Review article of Santiago Carrillo’s “Eurocommunism” and the State, whose English translation is due to be published by Lawrence and Wishart in October.
